MISC expertise

The Minimally Invasive Surgical Centre (MISC) was founded in 1993 to bring Singapore at the forefront of training, clinical, and research activities in endo-laparoscopic surgery.  Through the years, it has become one of the world’s most recognized institutions in minimal access surgery with a wide network of experts, both local and international.  Its website is among the world’s most frequently visited sites for keyhole surgery and has a readership base from all continents.

The dedication to pursue advancement in health care and the inherent thrust of MISC to go beyond traditional norms and practices were highlighted when Dr. Peter Goh, one of the founding members, became the first surgeon in the world to perform laparoscopic gastric surgery successfully.  Since then, many other pioneering works have transpired within the MISC.

Purely conventional education and training for surgeons confined within the hospital setting is now a thing of the past.  The rapid development of new gadgetry and techniques has brought about the surge in demand for short term courses and workshops designed specifically to introduce or update surgeons regarding highly specialized areas of interest.

With our state-of-the-art technological resources and world class faculty, the MISC has always been a prime mover in skills development and training for surgeons in the Asia-Pacific rim and the rest of the world.  The MISC organizes or hosts several workshops annually for a wide variety of specialties.  From basic laparoscopic courses to advanced workshops and even for the super specialized and ultra modern field of robotic surgery, MISC has always been and will always lead the way.  Furthermore, the MISC continues to provide full unparalleled training to fellows from countries interested in developing minimally invasive surgery in their respective nations.

The shift in the standard of medical care from the conventional open approach to the age of the “band-aid” surgery is a philosophy that the MISC continues to pursue, improve, and perfect.  Not only does it provide skills and technical training to surgeons the world over, its vast pool of surgeons highly specialized in advanced minimally invasive procedures provide our international patients with the utmost level of quality health care and expertise.

Whether it’s for skills training or actual patient care and treatment, the MISC continues to live up to its mission of providing outstanding care and service for patients and leadership in clinical, educational, and research programs in advanced minimally invasive surgery through the application of new and innovative technologies.

Patients can now avail of the established benefits of minimal access surgery experiencing less pain, shorter hospital stay, lesser complications, and with potentially better results.
