About National University Hospital
National University Hospital (NUH) is a 935-bed complement, acute-care, tertiary hospital. Started on 24 June 1985 as the first government-owned restructured hospital, it focuses on patient care, research, and education. NUH strives to provide personalized, cost-effective, specialized patient care within an environment of intensive research and excellent medical education.
NUH supports clinical teaching for undergraduate medical students and serves as a clinical and research base for the medical and dental faculties of the National University of Singapore. It also provides postgraduate training for specialist doctors.
Sponsorship Schemes
There are 4 categories of sponsorship. For each category, the Fellow will be designated as follows:
- Foreign governments - Honorary Fellow /li>
- International Health Organisations (e.g. WHO) - Honorary Fellow
- Local philanthropic organisations - Honorary Fellow
- Self-sponsorship - Honorary Fellow
Length of Training Period
Period of Fellowship will be for 6 months on initial appointment, extendable to 1 year subject to conditions set out by the hospital, Singapore Medical Council and the Singapore Immigration Department.
Renewal of Application
- S$50 will be charged for the renewal application.
- Cheques to be made payable to "National University Hospital (S) Pte Ltd".
Eligibility Criteria
- Has a recognized medical degree for Temporary Medical Registration with Singapore Medical Council*
- At least 5 years' experience as a Medical Officer after Housemanship / Internship
- Fluent in English and has passed TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
- Good academic record and at least 2 referees' reports
- Not more than 35 years of age
- Citizenship of other countries (Permanent residents of Singapore are not eligible)
- Has training permit issued by the Immigration Department, Singapore*
- Has health insurance cover
- Has valid malpractice insurance cover
*The NUH Fellowship Desk will assist to obtain medical registration and training permit.
Selection Process
Option of interview may be exercised by a panel chaired by the Chief of Department. Candidate bears the expenses for interview.
Final selection will be decided by the NUH Appointment, Accreditation and Promotion Committee.
Application Process
- Intakes will be in March and September for each year.
- Closing date for March intake: May of the previous year.
- Closing date for September intake: November of the previous year.
- Complete the NUH application form.
- Submit full personal particulars, professional qualifications, 2 referees' reports* and career history with medical testimonials, certificates of registration with the relevant supporting documents, letters from relevant sponsors (if applicable), a recent passport size photograph, email address and a non-refundable administrative fee of S$100.00 payable to "National University Hospital (S) Pte Ltd." Indicate on reverse side of cheque / bank draft: NUH Fellowship Desk, Medical Affairs Department.
- Only short-listed applicants will be notified.
*Your referees must be able to vouch for your work performance and character.
Benefits
- 7 days annual leave for 6 complete months of Fellowship.
- Fellows will be given a certificate to certify that they have completed their Fellowship at NUH upon completion of training. Fellows who prematurely terminate their training will not be entitled to this certificate.
- Fellows are eligible to Night Duty Allowance at MSO Grade 4 rate, i.e. S$210 per night for stay-in weekday calls and S$300 per night for stay-in weekend calls.
- Fellows are not eligible to any bonus payable or any benefit / privilege extended by the Hospital to its employees.
Feedback Requirements
All Fellows and their supervisors are required to complete training reports and return them to the NUH Fellowship Desk, Medical Affairs Department, before the end of the Fellowship.
