Workshop on Paediatric Laparoscopic Surgery

15 - 16 November 2008

Course Description

Laparoscopic surgery in childhood has become increasingly popular over the last decade because it provides superior post-operative cosmesis and shorter hospitalization time. Procedures such as Fundoplication, Nephrectomies, Pyloromyotomies, Lap-assisted Posterior Sagittal Anorectoplasty, Splenectomies as well as many others are now being carried out routinely.
This one and a half day workshop will consist of Lectures, Video Demonstrations and Round Table Discussions from experts from the ASEAN region and further field. There will also be a Dry Lab and Suturing workshop.

Course Objective

  • Review the basic principles of laparoscopic surgery;
  • Know the indicatons as well as contraindications of laparoscopic surgery on various paediatric conditions;
  • Familiarize themselves with the telescope and trocar placement and positioning for the different procedures;
  • Improve hand skills and techniques including stapling and intra-corporeal suturing.
