5th International Laparoscopic Workshop on Morbid Obersity and Metabolic Surgery

Course Objectives

This is a two-day program offering a comprehensive overview on the multidisciplinary management of obesity patients and it is dedicated to physicians, surgeons and allied healthcare professionals. This course will consist of lectures by outstanding local and overseas experts who will discuss the most recent advances of medical and surgical treatment of obesity and metabolic syndrome. We will focus on the technical aspect of laparoscopic obesity surgery through a multidisciplinary approach on the most commonly performed surgery for the treatment of morbid obesity (gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and gastric banding, etc). There will be an intense discussion on: preoperative management, prevention and management of complications, and practical technical issues to improve the clinical outcomes.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Identify selection criteria for laparoscopic bariatric surgery.
  • Describe technical aspects of the surgical techniques which may
    improve perioperative and postoperative outcome.
  • List the common complications after bariatric surgery.
  • Describe the management of complications after bariatric surgery.
  • Identify important elements necessary to start and maintain a
    successful bariatric surgery program.

Advanced surgical trainees and the practicing surgeons who want to develop or improve in laparoscopic bariatric surgery.
