The National University Hospital’s Minimally Invasive Surgical Centre (MISC) was established in 1993 and remains one of the well-recognised centres in the. The core of the Centre is to promote Minimal Invasive Surgery in Asia, as evidenced by a Regional Visiting Fellowship program that has benefited many surgeons from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, China, India, and Turkey. The MISC organize an advanced training programme, and with the opening of NHG-NUS Simulation Training Laboratory, the Centre will provide course participants with high-tech training facilities and activities. Such laparoscopic skills are becoming an increasingly important part of General Surgical training. The core curriculum of the Basic and Advanced training courses include hands-on activities in the dry-lab, animal laboratory and operating theatre activities. A comprehensive laparoscopic training course includes sessions on theoretical principles in laparoscopy, pathophysiology of diseases that are amenable to laparoscopic treatment, and basic and advanced laparoscopic techniques. Participants will benefit by utilizing the resources of the MISC.
